Cosmetic · Teeth Whitening

A brighter smile that still looks like you.

We make custom trays from a scan of your mouth, set a shade goal with you, and slow the pace if your teeth get sensitive.

What whitening can do

Whitening can noticeably brighten natural enamel. How far depends on your starting shade, and we'll show you a realistic target before you begin.

An exam before anything else

Whitening works on natural enamel only. A crown or filling near the front keeps its shade while the teeth around it lighten. We tell you that before you start and explain what updating it would involve.

That's why every whitening case at Sora Dentistry in Fairfield starts with an exam. We also check for decay, wear, and gum recession first. Whitening over an untreated problem helps no one.

Trays from a scan of your mouth

We take a digital scan instead of impression putty. Dr. Oh designs your trays on screen so they fit closely and keep the gel on your teeth and off your gums. You whiten at home, on a schedule we set.

A shade goal, set together

We pick a target against the shade guide, one that suits your face. Any preview on screen is only an estimate.

Sensitivity, planned for

Temporary sensitivity is common. If your teeth react, we slow down rather than push through.

Common questions

How white will my teeth get?
It depends on your enamel and starting shade. Some discoloration responds well, some barely moves. We tell you at the exam what to expect, before you commit.
Does whitening hurt?
Temporary sensitivity is common and usually mild. It tends to settle once treatment ends, and we adjust gel strength and wear time if it bothers you.
Will it whiten my crowns or fillings?
No. Whitening changes natural enamel only. If a visible crown or filling would no longer match, we tell you before you start.
How long do results last?
It varies with coffee, wine, smoking, and time. Occasional touch-ups in your own trays usually keep the shade up.
Is whitening safe for my enamel?
Dentist-supervised whitening is well studied and considered safe for enamel when used as directed. The exam is how we confirm you're a good candidate.

Your whitening, step by step

How whitening works

STEP 01

Exam first

We check your teeth, gums, and any crowns or fillings, then tell you what whitening can and cannot do for you.

STEP 02

Scan and shade goal

A digital scan for your custom trays, and a shade target we set together against the guide.

STEP 03

Whiten at home

You wear the trays on the schedule we set. If sensitivity shows up, we slow the pace.

STEP 04

Check and maintain

We compare the result to your goal, plan any touch-ups, and keep an eye on the shade at your hygiene visits.
